SAGINAW — The Saginaw News reported Wednesday that four Saginaw General Motors Co. sites are slated to get a piece of an $800 million cleanup trust fund.

Here is what U.S. Rep. Dale Kildee had to say:

"The estimated $161 million that Michigan will get for cleanup of old G.M. sites is extremely good news for our state and local communities.

Our auto communities in Michigan have been hit hard by the economic downturn and this cleanup money will help get these sites back up and running and creating economic opportunities throughout our area.

While Buick City is the first site to receive federal funds to begin cleanup, I am confident that other areas in my district, including Saginaw, will receive these necessary funds."

The Associated Press reported funding for the cleanup program comes from $1.2 billion provided by the Treasury Department to wind down the bad assets of GM that were set aside in the company’s bankruptcy.
