Lansing Mayor Virg Bernero, a Democratic candidate for governor, snared endorsements from U.S. Rep. Dale Kildee, D-Flint, and his nephew Dan Kildee, who had considered a gubernatorial bid himself, his campaign announced today.
Rep. Kildee is the first member of Michigan’s Democratic congressional delegation to take sides in the race between Bernero and House Speaker Andy Dillon, of Redford Township. The two Kildees were among 15 elected officials from Genesee County endorsing Bernero, including Flint Mayor Dayne Walling.
Walling said Bernero “stepped up when auto communities all over our state needed a champion and a fighter.”
