GENESEE COUNTY, Michigan — Flint and Genesee County will receive a chunk of nearly $4.5 million in stimulus funds for worker training, U.S. Rep. Dale Kildee's office announced.

The National Emergency Grants will fund training to help workers transition to new employment, Kildee said in a statement.

This is the second such grant mid-Michigan has received, and the funding is being awarded to the state Department of Energy, Labor and Economic Growth.

The grants will be targeted toward workers displaced from automotive and other related industries to transition them to growing areas of the regional economies, including health care, solar manufacturing; and management, scientific and technical consulting services.

Counties expected to receive services include Bay, Genesee (including the city of Flint), Lapeer, Midland, Saginaw, Shiawassee and Tuscola counties.
