GENESEE COUNTY, Mich. -- The Flint Metal Center has achieved landfill-free status.
It joins 62 other General Motors facilities worldwide, and becomes the third in Flint, to reach that goal.
The plant has been recognized for sending no waste to landfills.
Instead, officials are finding new secondary uses or recycling everything at the plant.
The metal center will product aluminum hoods for the electric Chevy Volt.
Flint Engine South and Flint Tool and Die are also landfill free.
“We thank GM and the employees for making this Earth a better place to work, live and play for future generations,” said Tiffany Flynn, Rep. Dale Kildee’s district chief of staff.
